3 Benefits Of Using A Vitamin C Serum With Hyaluronic Acid

Does getting older freak you out?  I get it. We all want to look as young as possible with each passing year. Taking care of your skin, especially your face, is no longer an option after age 40. In this post, I want to share the benefits of using a vitamin C serum with hyaluronic acid – most definitely one of my favorite anti-aging secret weapons.

The Magic Of Vitamin C

The importance of vitamin C has been known for decades. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi discovered ascorbic acid in the 1930s, and it’s been a foundational component of modern nutrition ever since. Lack of vitamin C causes a lot of symptoms, scurvy being one of them.

Today we take for granted the plentiful supply of life-sustaining foods in our neighborhood markets. Thankfully, vitamin C deficiency is rare today. It is, undoubtably one of the safest and most powerful nutrients we have at our disposal. Its benefits are numerous and include:

  • Enhanced immunity
  • Tissue growth and repair
  • Collagen synthesis
  • Wound healing
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Blood vessel integrity
  • Blood sugar control
  • Asthma
  • Maintenance of bones and teeth
  • Cancer prevention

Benefits Of Using A Vitamin C Serum With Hyaluronic Acid

1. Collagen Synthesis

Vitamin C plays a critical role in collagen synthesis. Think of collagen as a type of scaffolding that provides a sturdy structure or matrix for the skin. It’s kind of like a super glue that holds everything together.

This protein is also abundant in bones and connective tissue. Like everything else in the body, its production decreases with age, leading to wrinkling of the skin and stiff, painful joints. Unhealthy lifestyle factors don’t help matters.

Ready for a real bummer? Among the many symptoms associated with menopause, a dramatic decrease in collagen production is the most visible. This decline continues with each passing year, causing fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and a dull complexion.

False claims are common when it comes to skin care products and collagen. Due to its large molecular size, collagen can’t be absorbed through the skin. Lotions and creams that tout collagen synthesis can’t deliver on their erroneous promises.

2. Vitamin C Is A Powerful Antioxidant

Vitamin C can be taken internally or used topically. It’s magic lies in its antioxidant properties that protect against the damage caused by ultraviolet radiation. Because it’s a normal constituent of the skin, it’s found abundantly in the dermis and epidermis. Vitamin C regenerates other antioxidants in the body, mitigating the effects of free radicals, which damage the skin and accelerate aging.

Vitamin C is highly effective when applied topically. Remember how I said that collagen applied topically is too large to be absorbed through the skin? Well, there’s a work around for this – vitamin C serum. Collagen production can be stimulated by applying vitamin C to the skin.

3. Vitamin C Combats Oxidative Stress

The quest for the fountain of youth is real. It’s no wonder skin care is a million-dollar industry, but how many products on the shelves do what they purport to do? In my experience, vitamin C serum does, and it doesn’t contain harsh chemicals or dangerous fillers. It also isn’t outrageously expensive like so many anti-aging serums on the market today.

Vitamin C not only stimulates collagen production, leading to a firmer, plumper look, and a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, it also protects against UV damage. Vitamin C, in general is great for wound healing, and this holds true for the face as well.

Blemishes, and even scars caused by acne, diminish with serum use. It will also soothe any inflammatory skin conditions and is a great hydrator.  Hyaluronic acid, combined with vitamin C, is a powerful combination.

Vitamin C applied directly to the skin combats glycation and oxidative stress. AGEs, advanced glycation end products, form when sugars react with proteins, causing healthy collagen fibers to lose their elasticity.

AGEs reduce the regenerative ability of collagen, and even accelerate its breakdown. This leads to inflammation, wrinkling, and sagging skin. Glycation is the result of high-sugar diets and improper cooking of meat.

Hyaluronic Acid Holds In Moisture

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is truly a remarkable skincare ingredient and one that you’ll definitely want in your anti-aging arsenal. Not only does this natural compound promote collagen synthesis, it also has a plumping effect.

HA’s claim to fame is its ability to retain moisture in the skin, which like every thing else declines with age. When you think of HA, think hydration and anti-aging. It’s also extremely beneficial in its ability to lubricate the skin to keep it supple and toned.

HA has both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making it effective in fighting both free radical and UV damage.  Free radicals and sun damage both contribute to collagen and elastin degradation in the skin, a double whammy for wrinkling and sagging.

This extraordinary skincare ingredient suits all skin types and is gentle enough for sensitive skin. People suffering from rosacea and eczema can also enjoy its benefits. HA revitalizes the outer layer of the skin improving its feel, firmness and texture. If you want a smoother complexion, incorporate the moisturizing benefits of HA in your skincare regimen.

Vitamin C And Microneedling

Here’s a trick to supercharge your skin care products and build collagen. Microneedling or dermarolling rejuvenates the skin by injuring it. Seems counter intuitive but it works. I personally dermaroll four or five nights a week. A dermaroller is a small device that has a roller on the end filled with thousands of tiny needles.

I know it sounds painful but it just stings a little. This skin irritation is the same principle behind many skin care procedures, such as chemical peels, IPL, microdermabrasion, and treatments that use lasers. These tiny needles mechanically damage skin cells, stimulating them to repair themselves by replacing injured tissue with smoother, younger looking skin.

Dermarolling stimulates collagen and elastin, reduces pigmentation, and increases cell turnover. Another really great benefit of microneedling is the increased absorption of anything you put on your skin after rolling it.

Once I’ve rolled my entire face, I slather it and my neck with vitamin C serum. It stings a little bit, because my skin has been slightly punctured, but only for a few seconds. You get more bang for your product buck if you apply it after dermarolling because it’s able to absorb deeply into the layers of your skin.

  1. Vitamin C plays a vital role in keeping our skin as smooth as a baby’s skin. As we grow older, it loses elasticity, unhealthy lifestyle and diseases accelerate the process. In my case, I have blotched, yellowish skin brought on by an eating disorder. So I know that I am most likely lacking in what my skin needs.

Yet, I’m still trying to fight it and consume supplements to compensate for the huge loss. l will add your vitamin C serum to my list. I think it could help my skin recover from previous damage.

Overall, I love your content and keep writing comprehensive content as this. Kudos.
