What Are Blackheads?

A blackhead is simply a clogged hair follicle, and is a mild form of acne. The reason these black spots are called blackheads is because the top of the plugged follicle is black as opposed to whiteheads.  Blackheads are seen most commonly on the nose, but can appear on other areas of the body as well. Each hair follicle on the skin contains one sebaceous gland and one hair. Sebaceous glands produce sebum, a lubricating, oily secretion, which is responsible for keeping the skin soft.

A blackhead is formed when a hair follicle becomes clogged with oil and dead skin, and is then exposed to the air, causing it to become black. Oily skin, bacteria build-up, and hormonal changes are culprits behind blackhead formation, as are certain medications, including birth control pills, corticosteroids, and androgens. Blackheads differ from pimples in that they aren’t inflamed and don’t hurt, whereas, pimples can be red and painful due to bacteria invading blockages in the hair follicle.

Therapies Used For Blackheads

Several therapies are used to eliminate blackheads. Dermatologists and aestheticians may use a round loop extractor, an instrument used to remove blackhead plugs. Chemical peels are also helpful for removing clogs because they slough off dead skin cells, a contributing factor in the development of blackheads. Microdermabrasion is another procedure used in skin care clinics and spas that uses a special instrument to exfoliate the top most layers of the skin to remove blackheads.

Blue light is a noninvasive therapy that targets blackheads by killing bacteria and reducing oil production. Lasers use beams of intense light to treat blackheads without harming the top layer of skin. Vitamin-A containing medications prevent follicles from becoming clogged by stimulating cell turnover. One such medication is tretinoin or Retin-A. Topical formulas that have benzoyl peroxide are also used.

How To Reduce Blackhead Formation

Preventing blackheads in the first place is a wise strategy. Using oil-free and non-comeodogenic skincare products is essential for preventing blackheads, and keeping existing ones from getting worse. Be particularly mindful of the sunscreen you use as sunscreens are notorious for clogging pores. Be diligent in adhering to a consistent skin care routine, washing your face both morning and night to remove the grime and oil buildup of the day.

Exfoliation is critical for eliminating dead skin cells, which will greatly reduce the formation of blackheads. If you have oily hair, wash it every day to keep excess oil off your face. Also, consider eliminating dairy from your diet. It’s an inflammatory food with a lot of nasty substances in it from antibiotics, to pesticides, to GMOs. It’s the number one food that needs to be nixed if you suffer from any kind of aggravating or inflammatory skin condition.

Wouldn’t it be great if you get rid of blackheads yourself by using an electric extractor in the comfort of your own home? Now you can with the Xpreen blackhead extractor. This handy and effective extractor purifies pores by removing the oil inside blackheads and whiteheads, while massaging and tightening the skin at the same time.

It accomplishes this feat via an imported air pump with powerful suction capabilities. LED lighting enables you to clearly see the blackheads you’re targeting. Just like when you vacuum your carpet to pick up debris from the floor, the Xpreen vacuum works similarly to suck out blackheads on your nose. The small, round probe on the device will get the job done in under five minutes.

What It Comes With

The extractor comes with four different probes; big round, small round, oval, and a skin exfoliation probe, along with one pack of isolation filter pads and a stainless steel removal needle. It’s recommended to use the remover needle for stubborn blackheads. Clean pores with the extractor once a week for dry skin and twice per week for oily skin.

Equipped with four adjustable suction strengths, soft, normal, strong, and super, the Xpreen is good for all skin types. It’s suggested to use the lowest setting when first using the device, slowly building up from there. The extractor kit also includes a user manual, charging cable, and wireless charging base. Device will hold a charge up to 20 days when fully charged thanks to wireless induction.

The Best Treatment For Blackheads On Your Nose

The extractor is simple to use. Begin by thoroughly washing your face with warm or hot water to open your pores. Turn the device on. The lowest or soft suction mode is the default setting. Press the up or down button to select the level you’d like. It’s advisable to start low in the beginning.

Insert a filter pad into the slot at the top of the device to collect plugs. Select the probe of your choice, installing it on the nozzle. Holding the extractor close to the blackhead you want to remove, slowly move the probe, pulling vertically and slightly dragging the extractor to suck out the plug. The 45-degree angle makes it easy to maneuver the extractor. Use the removal needle for stubborn blackheads.

When finished, press the off button, remove the probe, washing and drying it completely. It’s normal to experience a stinging sensation when extracting blackheads. Be careful not to let the probe stay in one area too long, and never press too hard. Chemical cleaners should not be used as they might corrode the device.

  2. This seems like a cool way to get rid of blackheads, and effective an one! In my opinion, $38.88 is more than reasonable for something like this. I like that it also removes dead skin and oil. I think people who have oily skin and/or blackheads should give it a try. If I had a lot of blackheads, I probably would buy it.
